The "Honeymoon"

So, since we had our two little ones tag along on our honeymoon,  it doesn't feel right calling it a "honeymoon" but that's what we'll go with for now for lack of a better term...

It was our very first camping trip as a family.  We had a few different ideas of where we wanted to go and in the end the weather decided for us...and I'm glad that it did because that eventually led us to Waterton Lakes National Park.  Our first night on the road we camped in Kananaskis, only about an hour drive from home.

We had a bit of a rude awakening to camping with twins...it was a lot of work.  Not to mention there was the rain and mosquitoes to contend with as well, so we spent most of our time cozied up in the tent...

I wish I could say they slept as soundly as they look but unfortunately that wasn't the case.  None of us had a good sleep that night.  In fact, by the morning I was ready to pack it in and header home.  Rob on the other hand, wasn't going to admit defeat just yet and convinced me to do the same (he has a way with words).  So we kept on truckin' all the way to Waterton Lakes National Park.

One of the highlights of the trip for me was camping out in a tee pee.  It's something I've always wanted to do. I'm glad we did that night because it was super windy which would have made for a rough night in the tent.

The next day we toured across the lake on the "International" to Waterton's sister park Glacier National Park in the U.S.

We went for a little walk on the U.S. side and the boys found some antlers...

After a night in a tent and a tee pee we figured why not spend a night in a haunted hotel?  The Prince of Whales hotel was built in 1927 and it's been preserved to look the exact same way it did back then. I have no doubt that it's haunted, but somehow we managed to survive the night unharmed.

Our room was on the fifth floor (the top of one of those little peaks).  You had to take the oldest elevator in Canada (possibly even the world?) to get up there.  Assistance was needed (by one of the kilt wearing staff) to operate the elevator.

We had a beautiful view of the lake from our window.

But arguably the most fun of all, had to have been the double bicycle we rented.  This thing may look big and bulky but we got that puppy flyin' at some pretty high speeds.

After experiencing all that we could in Waterton, we hit up a few hot spring near Radium B.C.  It was the perfect way to soothe those nasty mosquitoe bites.  From there we camped out at Takaka Falls just outside of Field B.C.  It's another one of our favourite spots as I'm sure you can see why...

Well, it's hard to fit six actioned packed days into one blog post, but that's it in a nut shell.  We had an awesome trip and we're already planning our next "honeymoon".

  1. Wow! Fabulous pics Lindsay! You have such an artistic gift! Looks like you guys had lots of fun - I love the one of Casey(?) peeking out of the teepee. We'll definitely have to get to Waterton some day. Sure wish I was out there to snuggle with those sweet babes - I really miss them (and you too!).
    Love and hugs
